An hour west of Faro lies the pretty, bustling village of Praia da Luz, sloping gently down a hillside to a magnificent sandy bay set below rugged crags. A former fishing village, the heritage is still evident in its cobbled streets, church square, shops and restaurants, providing a fascinating glimpse of local life.
Further Afield The western Algarve is an area of beauty, with rugged mountain landscapes, coastlines frilled with rocky coves and sandy beaches, and quaint villages set on the seafront or tucked in the hills. The charming walled port of Lagos is home to a handsome marina, a 17th-century fort and a bustling harbourfront. Bars, art galleries and restaurants line its maze of cobbled streets and it boasts several fine beaches. |
