Wind and Sailing Conditions The Windward Islands lie across the easterly trade winds which make for easy passages north or south, just far enough apart for open water sailing. The winds normally blow at about 10 to 15 knots in the summer months, and from 20 to 25 knots from November to May. Winter season winds are generally north east, while the passage of weather systems between July and October cause north east/south east varations for short periods.
